Post-Jam Update #1: Updates on Art Styles, Gameplay (Build 0.2)


Hi everyone, there is a big update on the art style and gameplay of this game. Here is a sneak peek of it. 

Art:


A whole new color theme is applied to the game. You will find this new theme with black, white, and red only style fit more to the old war film tape.

Some Post-processing like film grain, retro TV noise is added for a more cinematic look. 


A customize forward renderer is used after rendering to post-processing. Glitch distortion, noises, etc are implemented with the help of the shader graph. A retro war video tap experience can be expected.

Gameplay:

Procedural infinite enemy spawning!

You can now play the game as long as you like unless losing all your aircraft. Each level will spawn a certain amount of enemies and eliminate them all to proceed.

Because of the infinite level, you will not have an absolute win right now. But you can track your score for each run. I believe you may lose the incentive in the long run, but no worry. There will be another update in the future on reward systems and dynamics at different levels.

Backup is on the way!

Allies will spawn after each time you eliminate an enemy. The stronger enemy you shoot down, the more allies can come to help. Let's fill the screen with allies and bullets!

True boid gameplay is here!

True boid gameplay is replacing the old controlling leader-only style. Every kamikaze will now be controlled together and move towards the mouse's location. The boid control will now automatically control the speed and peer avoidance. 

Ally collision detection is now turned off. No more push out of the map by allies planes!


Kamikaze cannot be without ramming attacks!

 A ramming mechanic is now available.  You can now ram into enemies and do tremendous damage. The faster your speed is, the more damage you do. But be careful, you don't want to lose all the aircraft.

A boost speed skill is added. You can now boost to avoid the enemy's attack or use it for a better ramming attack.

What's left behind:

I know it still lacks a lot on improving the game level design and the music, but these are not included in this update. I believe it is better to get it right next time rather than delay this update or rush a bad version of it. 

Besides, there will be an update on tracking the number of sacrifices you made. You will know to remember who helps you to the finale.
